The Awful Truth About Curious George February 23, 2011

We’ve all grown up enjoying that curious little monkey, and now we read about George’s many adventures with our own children.  I came across the first Curious George book in a box from my classroom library from when I was teaching first grade. I guess I accidentally packed it in with my personal collection as I cleared out my classroom in June of ’08. When I saw it I thought, awesome, another Curious George book to read with Elly, she’ll be so excited! I didn’t bother to preview the book, I figured we were in store for another adventure filled with some good clean fun.

George being captured in a bag and taken from his home in Africa by the man with the yellow hat is not exactly what I’d call good clean fun. Guess where the man with the yellow hat plans to take George….to live in a zoo, in the big city. Doesn’t that sound fun for a wild monkey?

In between being captured and restrained in a bag, being taken across the ocean on a strange ship, and going to live in the zoo, George manages to smoke a pipe and he also gets thrown in a prison cell for tricking some firemen.

One good lesson, the man with the yellow hat goes back and pays for some balloons that George took. His kindness is canceled out though when he ultimately takes George to live in the zoo. Oh and for the whole capturing an innocent monkey in a bag thing.

Of course this book became one of those books that Elly wanted me to read over and over again. I finally decided to hide it, out of sight out of mind, right? Not when dealing with a 2-year-old. I confessed that I put it away and consoled her by bringing out a new batch of books from my library. Her new favorite book, Giggle, Giggle, Quack. No animal abuse here, the animals actually trick the humans in this story! Now that’s some good clean fun.

4 Month Old Love Bug February 19, 2011

Miles turned 4 months old on February 12th (that same day Elly celebrated her half birthday!). He continues to be a SWEET lil baby boy! His baby giggles make me so happy, I love them.  Our big guy weighed in at 17 pounds at his check up. In case you’re wondering, he’s still not allowed to be a football player.

All You Need is Love February 15, 2011

Love was in the air at our house on Valentines Day, or maybe it was sugar. We started the day with some heart shaped cinnamon biscuits, yum! The treats didn’t end there because I made some mini cheesecakes for Jamie and some heart shaped rice krispie treats for Elly’s class. Jamie knows one way to my heart is through chocolate so he got me several variations!

It was a beautiful day so Elly got to play in her sandbox and we all enjoyed lunch in the backyard. Elly got a kick out of eating a heart shaped PB&J, which Otie also snuck in and got a taste of when Elly wasn’t looking. Happy heart day Otis.

Once Elly was in bed Jamie and I had a perfect Italian dinner at home while we went on a two-hour romantic journey with Brad Womack and the 6 loves of his life. Now that’s romance. Hope you got to spend Valentine’s Day with someone you love!
