The Real World: Wilmington

This is the true story … of four family members … who chose to move to the south … live together and have their lives blogged … to find out what happens … when people stop being polite … and start having babies … The Real World: Wilmington.

Many thanks to my colleague Alana (A.K.A. Miss Gossip) for the blog-inspired fashions …

And many thanks to all who’ve given Elly a special something. We’re sure to post about that here and/or write you personally in short order.

Happy 1 Week Birthday, Elly G! August 20, 2008

Elly Grace enthusiastically celebrated her 1 week birthday on Tuesday! I must say I was pleasantly surprised by my cake decorating skills, as was Elly.

The first week has brought tons of love and joy into our lives. As I was looking at her last night I couldn’t help but tear up in amazement that Jamie and I created this healthy baby that is actually all ours. I can’t wait to continue to get to know my baby girl over the many weeks to come.

The Hospital Stay

We received great care in the hospital and are so grateful for all of the doctors and nurses who made sure we were healthy and well cared for. We enjoyed our stay, especially the part where we simply press a button and have a nurse appear to answer our questions and provide assistance. There were definitely a few tears when it came time to leave the hospital and they weren’t from the newborn baby as you might expect.

Elly’s Fashionably Late Arrival

Filed under: Uncategorized — Christine @ 1:55 am

Jamie and I checked into the hospital on Monday night after timing contractions for a few hours at home. My contractions sort of ruined the “last supper” of crab legs we had prepared because we were scheduled to check into the hospital the next afternoon to begin the induction process. Mother nature had other plans for us…

We were scared but excited that labor had finally begun! I didn’t last too long before demanding, I mean of course politely asking, for an epidural. Once that took effect Jamie and I were able to relax through the night and watch some TV, although there’s not too much on in the middle of the night aside from The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. I did have a chance to impress Jamie with my knowledge of the theme rap though.

Things were going great until the epidural decided to start wearing off in addition to my dilation coming to a standstill despite lots of contractions. The doctor told us our little one might be stuck since she was predicted to be so big so Jamie and I talked it over and decided to go the c-section route, which was the right choice because it turns out she was stuck and facing the wrong way! Surgery was scary but we were so thankful for the care we received. Anyways, a mere 17 hours after labor began (but who’s counting) we had our baby girl!!!

Elynor Grace (Elly Grace) was born via C-section yesteday at 11:53 a.m., weighing 9 pounds and measuring 20 inches long.

Elly G. and Mom are doing just fine, and more blog posts will surely follow, so thank you for indulging us as we welcome her into the world.

She really is something else.

De-Mulletification August 9, 2008

Jamie has decided he wants to grow his hair a little longer now that we live by the beach (he secretly wants to be a gnarly surfer dude). His hair has gotten longer but it was taking on the stylish form of a mullet which wasn’t quite the look he was going for (despite how well it goes with a man in a tank top). I had the pleasure of trimming off some of the party…

Poll Time: Waiting For Baby August 8, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — Christine @ 4:29 pm

Today’s the day we’ve been waiting for all these months: 8/8/08 A.K.A. the due date. Alas, there are no signs of labor, so we’re left to sit around (uncomfortably) waiting for baby.

To help pass the time, we’ve added a poll over there on the right to spice things up. Help us predict the due date, and leave your prediction in the comments. Closest without going over wins a newborn onesie that our little girl will already be too big for upon arrival.

See results: If you guessed Tuesday the 12th, you guessed right, but the leading vote-getter was Sunday the 10th.
