Pumpkin Party: Part 2 November 17, 2011

Now for the fun stuff!

Activities: The kids decorated foam pumpkins, played pin the nose on the pumpkin, and played a game kind of like musical chairs with pumpkin mats.  We also had little pumpkins all over the yard so that each kid could pick one to take home. Grandpa helped set up a fall scene for the party guests to play in and for us adults to attempt to take pictures of them. Can we count eating as an activity? That was probably everyone’s favorite.

Miles smiled through round two of being sung to and would have eaten that whole cake if we had let him. He must have gotten my ‘love of cake’ gene.

Here are some party guests enjoying the festivities!

Thanks to everyone who helped us celebrate Miles’ first birthday! I’m sure he will feel very loved as he looks back on these pictures when he’s older. He also might feel his Mom was slightly crazy for throwing a party like this for a one year old but I’m ok with that since he’ll probably just think I’m crazy in general at that point!

Pumpkin Party: Part 1 November 14, 2011

In what has become typical for our family we had two birthday celebrations for Miles, one on his actual birthday and one on a Saturday so that friends and family could attend. His theme went a little something like this; ‘Our little pumpkin is turning one!’ It was busy putting the party together but I loved the planning, prep and of course actual celebration with sweet Miles! I was lucky to have a team of helpers to get everything set up, thank you Mottram family!

Invites: I ordered the file from Dimple Prints and got them printed at a shop. I love this site!

Tables and Food: I got the kids tablecloth off of ebay and bought cheap fabric and trim for Grammy Chris to make the other tablecloths (thank you!!). The wall decor are paper rosettes which I learned how to make here. Auntie Heather made the pumpkin smash cake which Miles enjoyed, you’ll see how much in the next post. The cake pops and mini pies were inspired by Bakerella and the main dish was the simple and beloved hot dog along with some easy sides. All the pumpkin printables are from a site on Etsy.

Some Other Decorations:

Favors: A sweet friend found these awesome books and got them for me to hand out at the party, yep the book stars Miles! The kids also got some pumpkin candy, a pumpkin craft and a mini pumpkin to take home. Since there was pumpkin stuff everywhere this time of year it was easy to find goodies!

Keepsake: I put out a piece of scrapbook paper and wrote ‘Hopes & Dreams’ at the top for people to write a little message to Miles. I’ll be able to slide it right into his baby book which I made through I highly recommend the site, the digital scrapbook pages are beautiful!

The next post will show some actual people having fun at the party!

I was so impressed when Elly showed me this drawing she did all by herself, she said it was a picture of me. Clearly.

We had a fun Halloween season! Elly decided a while back that she wanted to be a “scary witch” but then shortly before Halloween said she wanted to be Dora. So, if she asks, please confirm that they just don’t make Dora costumes. Thanks. Since Miles had a pumpkin themed birthday party and is known as our little pumpkin we went with the classic pumpkin costume for him and it was perfect.

Dentist Darling November 6, 2011

Elly made her first visit to the dentist and was a pro! We had read a book about Dora going to the dentist about a hundred times which I think made her really excited to go. I highly recommend the book if you have a Dora fan on your hands. She played in the waiting room, went back for her exam without me no problem, and was great through the cleaning and check up! I was really proud of her. Now Elly reminds me that we need to floss her teeth, such a little rule follower. Hopefully all this Halloween candy won’t mess up the good thing we’ve got going! Although, the dentist did tell me to start saving for braces. Hopefully by the time she needs them they won’t be as uncomfortable as I remember them being and head gear will be a thing of the past.
