Big Girl Bed, At Last March 27, 2012

I am feeling sentimental tonight as my BABY girl sleeps in a big girl bed, her very own, for the first time. Admittedly we kept Elly in her crib for a long time, I’ve been feeling bad about how cramped she’s looked in there lately! Ten books, ten stuffed animals, and 5 blankets also contributed to the crowd. We kept waiting and waiting for Elly to climb out of her crib like most toddlers decide to do at some point. It just never happened. She learned to climb into her crib and asked about climbing out. I told her it wasn’t safe or ok to do that, so she didn’t. Wow. I think she’s saving up all her rebellion for ages 14 through 17.

We went to Target earlier in the day, Elly picked out some horse sheets and I picked out a safety rail. She helped make her new bed exclaiming, “I love horses!”. She transferred her blankets, ‘friends’, and books into her new bed and settled in, with a huge grin on her face. I wanted to curl up next to her and hold her all night. But I didn’t. It’s hard to let her grow up but I also feel so proud and excited seeing her make this transition. I know, I know, it’s just a bed, but it just seems bigger than that.
