We had a bit of an adventure recently when our downstairs heat broke during the coldest week in Wilmington this winter. To make things just a little more complicated Jamie was on a business trip during the outage. Luckily we had heat upstairs.
The main problem was being able to cook for and feed Elly. On the first morning with no heat I made the mistake of putting Elly’s tray on the floor in my bedroom and letting her eat picnic style but stealth Otis licked her plate of food. Otis!!!! After that she enjoyed meals in bed, such a little princess. Since then she’s been demanding that we serve her breakfast in bed complete with a single de-thorned pink rose in a vase alongside her banana and toast.
Speaking of Otis, no heat downstairs made dealing with him a little more of a challenge as well. I had to leave Elly in her crib to let him in and out. When he wants back in he lets you know it in a very annoying high pitched barking way, on repeat. So, when Elly was enjoying her breakfast in bed and Otie’s beautiful voice rang out it wasn’t as simple as just going down and letting him in since I had a baby in bed who was eating. When Elly is removed from food or when her food simply runs out because she has eaten it all you better run for cover. She reacts like she just found out all of her stuffed animals are being sent off to war, the horror!
We made the best of the situation and went out for a Mommy/Daughter lunch downtown one day and made dinner at my Dad’s a couple nights. By the time Jamie got home, after lots of delayed flights, all was back to normal (aside from the suspected 4 legged creature who has been visiting our home, but I will save that story for another day). Now, back to enjoying the 70 degree paradise known as my family room, kitchen and dining room.
